REVIEWS - Montfort Restaurant Phone: (905)632-1232 Montfort's is located in the southern Ontario city of Burlington, on the City's main street, Brant St. Although the menu is mostly made up of meat dishes, the vegetarian dishes and their delivery is excellent. Warmed, fresh pita bread is served as an appetizer (we usually order more as well) with 3 sauces. One of the sauces is a cream-based sauce so we haven't tried it, but the other two are excellent. One is a ketchup style sauce that is very sweet, and the other is an incredibly rich onion and tomatoe sauce with a very dark spiciness to it. The dish we usually order is the felafel plate. The felafel balls (chick peas mixed with spices and deep fried) are extremely crispy which is wonderful. Too often in many restaurants, the felafel balls are mushy, but Montfort's obviously keep the oil hot enough so as to seal the outside. This not only makes them crunchy and firm, but it also prevents the oil from seeping into the felafel balls and making them too greasy. There is a fairly nondescript salad accompanying, as well as either rice or potatoes which are quite good although not anything too special. The restaurant is quite comfortable, although the location in a small strip mall is not the best. They have opened a couple of other locations, but we have not been to either one yet. The prices are quite good, and the service has been very good also. It's a very popular spot on weekends, after the bars and pubs have closed. groovegan rating: **** © 1999-2004 KL Projects |
